Strategisches und operatives Produktionsmanagement
It is a pleasure to write a preface to this Festschrift devoted to honoring the many accompli- ments of Peter Milling. Peter Milling has been a leader among the second generation of those who have been building the field of system dynamics. Milling was introduced to system dynamics by Professor Gert von Kortzfleisch, who arranged to have Milling come to MIT and work on the “Limits to Growth” project for the Club of Rome. Milling was a co-author of the German edition of Limits to Growth. In his early career in system dynamics, Milling was co-author of the capital sector in Limits to Growth as described in the accompanying technical book, Dynamics of Growth in a Finite World. Ever since the early 1970s, Milling has been a leader in the extension of system dynamics, especially in the corporate world. He has published papers in both German and English. His papers have examined difficult frontier issues in management with emphasis on pricing strategies, innovation processes, business simulators, industry cycles, rationality in modeling decision making, adaption to external complexity, and organizational change. In 2001 Milling received the Forrester Award of the System Dynamics Society for the best paper of the prior five years for his 1996 paper in the System Dynamics Review, “Modeling innovation processes for decision support and management simulation”. We look forward to many more years of professional contributions from Peter Milling beyond th his 65 birthday.
