Neue Herausforderungen im Personalmanagement
Plus qu'hier, moins que demain The title of this book suggests that there are challenges ahead for the HR profession. There are also opportunities. Thirty years ago when I met my to-be wife, we could not afford a nice wedding ring, so we bought a simple French necklace that came in a package with the saying, "plus qu'hier, moins que demain" (more than yesterday, less than tomorrow). While this maxim refers to affection, it also applies to the HR profes sion. More than yesterday. The field of human resources has evolved and matured. As large organizations grew in the early 20th Century, the management of people was often left to the purchasing department. People, like plant and equipment, were a commodity to be bought and used. As managers became aware of the importance of intellectual or human capital to the success of the enterprise, the study of human resources has ex panded to explore how managers can and should treat people to help their organiza tions reach their goals. And, the human resource profession has grown. Less than tomorrow. The future of HR is open to great opportunities. As financial, product, and technologies become more readily copyable, it is increasingly the human element and the organizations that people inhabit that make areal difference in re sults. The road ahead for the HR profession has many opportunities and challenges.
