Standortbeschreibung Gorleben Teil 4
This report describes the geotechnical investigations, and the results of these geotechnical investigations, carried out as part of the underground exploration programme up to the beginning of the moratorium on 1 October 2000.
Parameters to characterise the rock and the site were determined by the geotechnical investigations in the form of in situ measurements and laboratory tests. The data which were determined form reference datasets for the description of the thermal, mechanical and hydraulic rock properties which were used to elaborate conceptual models and to conduct model calculations.
They are the input parameters for numerical model calculations and are referred to in reports on the stability of the underground workings, assessing the integrity of the salt barrier, as well as the long-term safety of a geologic repository in a salt formation. Although the investigation of the salt dome has not yet been completed, the investigations overall support the conclusion that none of the geoscientific findings question the suitability of the Gorleben salt dome as a location for the construction and operation of a geologic repository.
