Theology in Dialogue with Empirical Sciences
The section for systematic theology of the Wissenschaftliche Gesellschaft für Theologie (WGTh) has dedicated two annual conferences to a dialogue with the empirical sciences, which work with observation, questioning and experimenting. In 2009 the topic was a discussion with the social sciences on the measurability of religiosity. And in 2010 a dialogue with the natural sciences addressed the topic “perspectives of experiencing time”. This kind of interdisciplinary discourse helps us clarify pertinent factual questions and explore the possibilities of cooperation. The contributions presented here join the ongoing theoretical debate on the concept of experience and test the significance of experience in the work methods and in the self-conception of theology as a science.
